Gas Safe Register urges summer checks - 23.07.18
Last summer nearly 1,300 sites were identified as unsafe by Gas Safe Register’s inspections team. This is due to dangerous gas appliances being found. That's an 18% increase of those found in the winter months. "Despite these findings, a survey of more than 2,000 UK adults found that one in five (19%) would only consider getting their gas appliances checked if they stopped working"
These are the top 10 cities for unsafe appliances:
City Number of unsafe sites found
Jonathan Samuel, Chief executive of Gas Safe Register, said:
'The sun may be shining but that doesn’t mean that checking your gas appliances can be left until later in the year when you may be cranking up your heating. Our inspections data shows that it doesn’t matter what time of year it is, your gas appliance could still put your health and home at risk if it’s not been safety checked recently. It’s important that gas appliances are checked regularly, we recommend on an annual basis so that you can have peace of mind that they are working safely and efficiently whilst making the most of the Great British summer.'

Gas safe for the summer - 02.07.18
We can't believe that it is July already. The mini heatwave we are having is lovely but at times too hot in the van and the office. Must dig out the fan for tomorrow...
We've just come across some good advice from the NHS about staying gas safe in the summer:
Gas safety is just as important in the summer as it is in the winter. Poorly maintained appliances and boilers can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be fatal. Find out how you can keep safe.
Gas central heating may be turned off in the summer, but your boiler is still being used for hot water and you might use a gas cooker.
Many of us also own a gas barbecue that we use to enjoy simple meals outdoors.

Boiler Services - 27.06.18
We carry out boiler services regularly and today was no exception, we were halfway into our third service of the day and we are asked "why do you need to do this every year then?"
Many homeowners know that servicing your boiler annually is just as important as servicing your car.. in many cases the home insurers will always check that the boiler has been regularly serviced if there is ever a claim.
Some homeowners, however, don't realise how important having an annual boiler service is. Not only does it keep you safer, it helps the system to run more efficiently, therefore, saving you money.
The Gas Safe Register suggests that
If you notice any of the following warning signs, you’ll want to get your appliance serviced right away:
- The gas appliance is not working properly
- The appliance is burning with a lazy yellow flame rather than a crisp blue one
- Black marks/stains are evident around the gas appliance
- The pilot light keeps going out
- There is increased condensation in the room
If you notice any of the above then give us a call on 01243 820474 or 07899 964237
Landlords Gas Safety Responsibilities - 26.06.18
We have carried out several boiler services today, one of which was for a landlord who uses us regularly for their properties across Bognor, Chichester and Westergate.
We are more than happy to carry out landlord gas safety checks for anyone in the area and have been requested to check lots of properties through letting agents so that both landlords and tenants have peace of mind.
If you are a landlord click here for some helpful information about your responsibilities regarding gas from the Gas Safe Register.
"It's hot out there" - 25.06.18
How many times have you heard that today? Well it is set to continue for the week so make sure you have the suncream stocked up and maybe a few cold ones in the fridge for the end of the day...
Although its been hot outside today, we have been ensuring that a new home owner in Bognor will be warm in the winter.
After moving in to their new home last month they wanted to get their gas appliances checked over. They found us on Facebook and we were happy to help.
Here is some advice from the Gas Safe Register for new home owners..
Buying a new home
Ensure your new property is Gas Safe
You can’t always be sure when the appliances and pipework in your new property were last serviced and checked. Your vendor should be able to provide you with a Gas Safety Record showing that a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer has checked the gas installation pipework and appliances. If they’re unable to do this, you’ll need to contact a registered engineer to carry out checks before you move in. The engineer should be able to complete a record and provide it to the vendor so they can pass it onto you when you move into the property.
The infographic below is a handy guide which can help with any common queries regarding moving home and gas safety.
Always remember to have your appliances checked regularly – as the risks if you don’t include deadly carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions. If you need to find a registered engineer to carry out these checks, don't forget you can do so online.

The Daily Pipeline -20.06.18
It's about time we let you in on what happens on a daily basis at SHCC head quarters..
So, here we are at the new office in Bognor and we have finally found five minutes during our busy schedules to update the website and start our new Blog.
Welcome to all of you that have been directed here, recommended by someone or have stumbled across our website by searching on Google for a reputable and reliable heating engineer.
Although at this time of year heating is not something you tend to think about, it has fast become a great opportunity for our customers to replace old systems or service their existing boiler during the warmer climate. This helps to eliminate the risk of being left in the cold, with what could have been a poorly maintained system, leading to their boiler breaking down in the depths of winter.
Today we have serviced three boilers and repaired a central heating pump, leaving four very happy clients.
With Gas Safety Week #GSW18 on the horizon we thought we would include some Top Tips on staying safe with Gas from our friends at the Gas Safe Register..
Top tips to stay safe
Six simple steps to help keep you safe and warm in your home
- Only use a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, fix and service your appliances. You can find and check an engineer at GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
- Check both sides of your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card. Make sure they are qualified for the work you need doing. You can find this information on the back of the card.
- Have all your gas appliances regularly serviced and safety checked every year. If you rent your home ask for a copy of the landlord’s current Gas Safety Record.
- Know the six signs of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness. Unsafe gas appliances can put you at risk of CO poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions.
- Check gas appliances for warning signs that they are not working properly e.g. lazy yellow flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks or stains on or around the appliance and too much condensation in the room.
- Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm. This will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home.
